Principal Marine Electronics Engineer

Lead the delivery of critical marine navigation and communications solutions

An established and growing marine technology organisation is looking for an experienced Principal Marine Electronics Engineer to lead a regional engineering team while remaining hands-on in the installation, commissioning and support of advanced marine navigation and communications systems.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced marine electronics professional looking to combine technical expertise with leadership responsibility. You'll play a key role in developing engineers, supporting customers across the UK and overseas, and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

The Role

You'll be responsible for leading a team of field engineers, ensuring exceptional levels of customer service whilst managing engineering resources effectively across your region. Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you'll continue to deliver technical work onboard a wide range of commercial and specialist vessels.

Working closely with senior management and service coordination teams, you'll help drive operational efficiency, identify new business opportunities and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and support a team of Electronics Engineers.
  • Plan and maximise engineer utilisation across your region.
  • Install, commission, service and repair marine navigation and communications equipment onboard customer vessels.
  • Carry out fault finding, inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Work closely with service coordination and senior management to ensure profitable and efficient service delivery.
  • Develop strong customer relationships and identify opportunities for additional service and equipment sales.
  • Support business development activities, customer events and regional marketing initiatives.
  • Undertake radio surveys and statutory inspections where appropriately qualified, or complete training to achieve the necessary accreditation.
  • Travel throughout the UK and internationally to support customer requirements.

About You

You'll have a strong technical background within marine electronics along with previous experience leading or supervising engineering teams.

You'll also have:

  • Extensive experience working with marine navigation and communications systems.
  • Previous experience within a field service engineering environment.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electronics or Electrical Engineering.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • GMDSS Operator's Certificate.

Desirable Experience

  • Radio survey qualifications and experience.
  • Experience working within a marine electronics service organisation.
  • Manufacturer training on marine navigation or communications equipment.
  • BOSIET or offshore survival certification.
  • Knowledge of UK maritime regulations and industry standards.
